OUR TRAINING

Over the years our training has been updated and adapted to enable us to give personal care to our patients.  That little extra special care, we all need. We only train six applicants in one class in order to give the individual training the need, to equip them to be the best carers they can be

Carers are trained how to assess a patient, take vital signs, disease management and how to manage the care program. For eg. A patient that has had a stroke and is now sent home to recover, cannot just be bathed, dressed and medicated!  The care giver must encourage the patient to get back to living a normal lifestyle. So the physio is encouraged and applied even if the patient is bedridden or in a wheelchair. Specific attention is needed to address depression, hopelessness and pain control in line  with the doctors and other therapists recommendations.

Tube feeding as seen in the picture below might be needed when the patient can no longer eat on their own. The caregiver is trained to provide this function.

The  caregiver is trained to assist a patient with diabetes to maintain a balanced diet.
The patient must check or have the caregiver check their glucose levels regularly. The caregiver is trained to assist the patient to do this test.
The above chart and others similar to this, give the care giver a guide on how to plan the meals. We adjust high GI and low GI according to glucose levels.
